Philadelphia Insurance Companies

New Carrier, New Market, New Opportunity

We couldn’t believe how many times Kelly Pottle said “yes” at our Philadelphia Insurance Companies’ event July 20th here at MIBS.  There was an occasional “no”, but once you see their appetite list, you will understand how it could really expand your business opportunities.

“Do you accept daycares or schools?”    Yes

“How about a craft brewery?”                 Yes

“Will you consider Fuel dealers?”            Yes

“What about home healthcare?”            Yes

The PHLY event was presented by Kelly Pottle, a marketing representative from Philadelphia Insurance Companies who described herself as a PHLY baby.  Since her father is a long time employee of PHLY, Kelly attended their events as a young child, interned there during her college years and ended up working there after college.

Now, What Should You Be Doing?

It is best to change commercial carriers at the business’ renewal so plan to start the quoting process about 90 days prior to the renewal.

Recommended actions:

  1. Agents currently placing commercial business, go through your business contact list and find the businesses that might fit in PHLY’s appetites.  This should include those businesses that you had to place sub-standard or were unable to place.
  2. Agents with group health businesses, look through these to see if any might be eligible for PHLY coverages. If you haven’t tried placing commercial business with MIBS, this is a great time to give it a try.  Many businesses within this niche market had to go to substandard coverage so you would be truly helping this client to move them to a better carrier.
  3. Agents who are actively prospecting, use the appetite list to find these niche businesses that you can contact. Love beer?  What could be more fun than visiting all of the craft breweries in your area.  Golf addict?  Same thing, go visit golf clubs.  PHLY offers coverages to some really fun businesses.
  4. Now that you have a list of potential businesses, you can send the list to MIBS (include the business name, brief summary of the business and the business website).   commercial@midwestga.com     MIBS will let you know which ones to pursue.
  5. Take those businesses and find out when their renewal is and place on prospecting calendar so that you start the process approximately 90 days prior to the renewal.
  6. Cyber Liability is a fast growing coverage and PHLY offers a great product. Review all of your current business to make sure they have the proper coverage.  This can be purchased separately or added on to a policy by endorsement.
  7. As you are going through your business lists, remember that PHLY also has a great E&S solution for those businesses that cannot be placed in the standard market. These businesses can also be prospected as well.

With the expansion of available appetites, PHLY allows MIBS to assist our agents with placing more commercial business than ever.  Please do not disregard this opportunity.  I know that MIBS has had to decline business in the past, but now we can say Yes more often.  Give us a chance to say YES.
